AT Day 155 Partnership Shelter to Hurricane Shelter

October 12
Miles ~20
Total 1673
We finally caught up to The Birds!  They're a really fun couple that we met back on Mt Moosilauke.   They're called "The Birds" because, as LB says "We're LOUD!"   Anyway, we sumitted Katahdin on the same day as them but then they came right back to the trail. They got back on the trail around September 4th.  We've been pulling some big miles so we had hoped to catch up with them.     Finally we started seeing their name in the logbooks and we were getting closer and closer.   Last night, after a nice couple popped in to see if anyone needed anything and after we imposed on their generosity to get a ride to the store for the coffee we had forgotten earlier, we came back to camp and heard some familiar voices!  Finally we had found The Birds.  Unfortunately, we're on a schedule now so we have to hike a bit faster than is our want but I hope we can connect back up with them sometime up the trail.
Today was a great day of hiking for us.  We left camp around 9am, did the first 10.6 miles in 3.5 hours even with a stop to pick berries.  We took a nice long lunch and then busted it out here. And by busted it out I mean we stopped to make some calls when we reached the top of our biggest climb of the day.   We pulled in around 5:30.    Our campsite is cozy with a little stream, a fire ring and lots of rhododendron.
p.s.  The couple in the photo is not the Birds.  Just a few folks we've been leapfrogging with lately.
p.p.s Did you love my run on sentence?
