Day 132 - Tenting near Rod Hollow to Tom Floyd shelter

Miles: 25
Total: 1223
Dear count: 41

We had originally planned on only 17 miles but we arrived at the Jim and Molly Denton shelter at 3 p.m. and decided to go on.  as soon as we started the last 8 miles, Shannon's energy was instantly gone.  The first mile took us 30 minutes, which in the best of times previously was great for us, but we had been making such great time today that Shannon was sad she was starting to fall behind.  But then she realized why - we had already hike 17 miles.  Thinking about how far we'd come, her mind reacted accordingly - by being tired.  17 miles is a lot. When I realize what was happening, I shifted to thinking only about our 8 miles left and that really helped.  My body was still tired but my attitude about pushing on shifted and we made the shelter by 715 PM!

We really lucked out today, as the weather called for heavy rains all day. But we are very worried about tomorrow, as the chance for thunderstorms goes up to 100%.

PS it is raining now, and the spring is really far away. So we are gathering water off off the roof.  We've included a picture of this act to show you just how clever we are.
