day 131: blackburn center to tenting near rod hollow

today we got up pretty early at around 6 a.m. the 2 women that we met last night, Light brite and Foot, hiked with us on and off today.  we can already noticed a difference in the amount of thru hikers on the trail; when we were hiking North, it seems that we ran into many North bounders each day.  but thus far in the past two days we have only met two South bounders.

Today we entered into Virginia and soon after, we started what is known as the rollercoaster.  The rollercoaster is a series of ups and downs that goes for about 13 miles.  we were worried about it before, but after the whites and southern Maine it didn't feel too bad.

One of the highlights of the day was the Bears Den hospital.  They had a great hiker around available for free use to all thru hikers.  we hung out there for a little while with foot and light bright, enjoying 50 cent sodas and watching Seinfeld.

While we intended only to hike 14 miles today, we still had energy at our original stopping point, so we moved on to the Rod Hollow shelter 3 miles on.  unfortunately, the piped spring that we were looking forward to it was dry.  we pushed on another .8 miles to a camping spot - the water situation wasn't great but at least it was there.

oh, we also passed the 1000 mile marker today!  only 1000 more miles till Springer Mountain.
