  2. When I read this diary I can't believe that people can do so many things! You have such motivation and desire! You have now a huge culture! I'm very impressed ! I think what you do is the best thing we can do if we want to enjoy life! For me this blog is a real life lesson which proves that nothing is impossinle if the motivation is here!

Pictures are very beautiful! I have one question : What gave you the desire to travel?

    1. Hi Camille,
Thank you for your comments. You said that "nothing is impossible if the motivation is there". I agree with you 100%.

You asked where I got the desire to travel? I think I have always loved travel. When I was young, my parents and I would travel across the United States and as I became a teenager I was very lucky to be able to visit Italy, Spain and England. Maybe my love of travel grew from these early adventures.

I hope you are able to do what makes you happy in life. Thanks for your comments.

Please tell your teacher, Ms. Greff, that I appreciate her having you read my blog.

    1. Hello Benjamin,
Your are lucky to have such a wonderful teacher. Please tell her I said so.

Thank you for reading our blog. I will write more now that I know people are reading it!

You ask about how I decided to realize my dream and what I love about my adventures. Those are great questions.
The first question about my decision to travel is easy. When I think about the things I want to do, I ask myself: When I am old, what will I regret more? traveling or not traveling? Obviously my answer is that I would regret not traveling. And so, I travel!

My favorite part of the adventure is meeting new people and hearing about their travels. Every person we meet inspires us to do new things.

      Thank-you again for your comments.

  4. Hi! I am Charlène Morin, how are you in Antarctic ?
I want to know how you live away from the family? Have you regular news?
the fact that you share your experience on this blog is very boring and it allows us to discover Antarctica, I find it really good!!
Have a safe journey ! Bye.

    1. Hi Charlène,
I love your questions. Many people wonder how I can live away from my family. I am lucky because I am married and my husband also loves to travel. We travel together and it makes it easy to be away from America and from my family. However, in almost every place we travel there is Internet. I can e.mail, skype and internet call with my family. These days it is very easy to communicate with people where ever they are.

Please tell your teacher Mrs Greff that she's great. I wish I had a teacher like her when I was a student.

      Thank-you for reading my blog!

  5. Hello Shannon and Jamie ! I'm LINA Chloé, I am a student of Sarah Greff. First of all, i love your blog, it's very interesting and it allows me to travel around you.
I wonder if you had the right to touch the penguins? They are so cute! But why Antarctica? What was the lowest temperature? In all cases the pictures are so beautiful!! What is your next destination? I admire your couragage before traveling to two and not see your family. I wish you good luck, Take care! Bye!

    1. Hi Chloé,
I wish we could touch the penguins! I think they are cute too! Only the scientists are allowed to touch the penguins and they try to touch them as little as possible. They don't want to change their behavior.

Why NOT Antarctica!? It's the southernmost continent and we feel like it's the last frontier. It's beautiful and harsh-a very unique place.
We were in Antarctica in the summer. We had sunlight 24 hours a day. The coldest day was around -10C but that was uncommon in summer-usually it was around 0.

Our next destinations will be New Zealand and Australia!

      Thank-you for reading our blog!

Please tell your teacher Ms Greff that she's my hero.

  6. Hello, Shannon and Jamie ! I am Giuliana Mathilde a student of Sarah Greff.
I find your blog very interesting, because it is written while you are there and pictures are wonderful !
I have some questions: When see you your family ? Which is the weather report antartique ? How takes place your days because it is night all the time?
Thank for your answer, take care !!

    1. Hi Giuliana,
Thanks for your comments. I'm glad you enjoy our pictures!
To answer your questions, we are a married couple so whenever we travel our family is together. We don't see our larger families very often because we travel so much, but we can talk with them on the phone or through the internet.
An interesting thing about Antarctica is that it is in the southern hemisphere, which means it has the opposite seasons of France and Europe (and USA). So Antarctic summer is just finishing and we have had 24 hour days for most of the season, no night time! The winter is coming soon though, and then it will be 24 hours.

Does your family and friend miss you?
Because personnaly , I could not live without my family and my friends .
Do you think that everyone could live in such conditions ?
    You're both brave !!

    1. Hi Burcu, thanks for your message. We don't swim in the water here because it is too cold! -2 degrees celsius!
We do miss our family and friends when we are down here, but we have made many good friends in Antarctica because very fun and interesting people come here!
I don't think everyone could live here, but I think many can. Do you think you would like to live in a place like Antarctica?

  8. Dear Shannon and Jamie,
We like your blog, we're finding it very interesting. We'd like to do the same but we have to wait 2 years until our 18th birthday. We have a few questions for you and we would really like you to respond us. First, how long would you like to continu the expedition ? Which place would you like to go next (after Antarctica) ? Did you have any business ? How did you earn your money ? Wouldn't you like to have any children in the next years ?
We also wanted to say that the pictures in this article are breathtaking and truly amazing ! The penguins are so cute and we really want to cuddle one right now. The way you're travelling all around the world is exciting 'cause it's like a dream for us and you're probably feeling free while doing this. We respect you and hope you continu to post on the blog so we can follow all of you projects.
    Friendly,

    1. Hi Anne-Sophie and Marie,

We are so glad you enjoy our blog! I hope that you can do some traveling after school and experience the world as well. When you travel you make the whole world your school.

Our season in Antarctica was only four months (October to February) and we are in Australia right now enjoying some warm weather! We were actually working at the station (it wasn't an expedition), so much of our time we were very busy at work. We only had one free day a week, but we did as much as we could.

We like to take interesting jobs in interesting places; this way, we can support ourselves while traveling. We hope to return to Antarctica for work again next year! Our Antarctic program flies out of Christchurch, New Zealand, so we get a free trip there each season we work in Antarctica!

I'm happy that you want to travel as well! It is not always easy, but it is always worth it!

      Sincerely,
      Jamie and Shannon

The people around me go in other country like Spain,Italy or the USA and you make something different,it is very good! Now i want to travel more and farther but i think Antarctica for me is a little too cold

I have a question for you,was it diffucult to leave Boston, your friends and your family? When have you got the courage of leaving everything to discover the world?

Thanks for your message! I'm glad you like the blog. Have you traveled to other countries near France before? We like to travel to strange places but we also like to travel in USA as well! Sometimes the most amazing places are close to home.

Since we have been traveling so much, it is easier for us to travel to a far off place. We do miss our friends and family but we can keep in touch over phone and the internet.

We have wanted to travel the world since we were in school and we are so lucky that we shared this dream. Do you want to travel someday too?

      Sincerely,
      Jamie and Shannon

  11. Hi! I am a Mrs.Greff's student and I am wondering how do you live the day the day ,how did you feel during the first months and before the day of the departure. I think it's a good idea to travel all around the world and discover all the countries because we are young and as we are the time to visit the place like the Antartica, see pinguins it's things that we can't do it all the days, we must do it. What job have you got in Antartica ?

    1. Hi Laurine,
      Thanks for reading our blog!

In Antarctica my husband and I were dishwashers. It is a very boring job in a very interesting place. A typical day in Antarctica involved work. We would work for 10 hours a day. After work we would usually try to go outside for a walk or a hike. Because it is sunny 24 hours a day in Antarctica it is easy to go hiking at night. The first few months in Antarctica were very exciting. At night I would go to the coffee shop to meet my friends. I would go home at 11pm and forget that the sun would still be shining. Or I would often walk outside and have to stop and look at the mountains because they are so beautiful.

Before the day of departure was very stressful because I kept worrying that I would forget something and I was anxious about going to a new place. But once I got to Antarctica, everything was fine.

      Thank you for your questions.

It's mazing to see your living conditions. You are lucky, because you just live the real life. This blog makes us reflect about our life. You should feel free and more alive than ever. It's a great experiment and you have the courage too do it. I saw in your picture that you've seen beautiful and awful things But it's the real life I just wanna ask you a question : Have you touched some penguins ?
Hopingfor an answer I wish you good luck :)

    1. Hi Fiona,
I wish we could touch the penguins! Especially the baby ones. They are so cute! We aren't allowed to touch anything that lives in Antarctica. All the countries that are in Antarctica signed a treaty. That means we've all agreed to try not to change the environment. That means not bothering the animals. Only the scientists can get close to or touch the animals. Sometimes the penguins would walk very close to us, but we weren't allowed to touch them. In fact, if the animal reacted to our presence in any way-we were to close.
      Great question.

      Thanks for reading our blog!

Moreover , how many countries have you already visited? Did you miss you friends and family ? How many penguins have you seen ? Are they dangerous or not ? And how long have you been together ? You are a cute couple. I think it's amazing to discover so many countries and to be free and together at the same time. You are probably happy and lucky. What is your job in this country? I hope that you have a nice day and a nice travel. Take care of you , and continue this beautiful dream.

    1. Hi Julie,
Thanks for reading our blog. I'll try to answer all your questions.
By myself, I have visited Costa Rica, England, Portugal, and Italy. With my husband we have traveled to South Korea, China, Japan, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, New Zealand, Australia and Antarctica. That's 13 countries.

I don't miss my friends or family. I travel with my husband so I always have a friend with me. We also make friends where ever we go. It's our favorite thing about traveling! As for my family, I keep in touch with them via e.mail, Skype and facetime.

I have seen over 4000 penguins. We got lucky and were given a trip to a penguin colony. It was amazing and incredible. The penguins aren't dangerous...unless you're a fish!

My husband and I will have been married for 5 years in August. We've been together for 7 years. When we got married we decided we wanted to travel for 5 to 10 years. We are in year 5.

In Antarctica we were washing dishes. It was a very boring job in a very interesting place. Currently we aren't working. We saved enough money to travel until we go back to Antarctica in October.

Thanks for your comments and compliments.

I hope you are able to do what makes you happy.
