AT Day 152 Fort Bastian Dojo to Chestnut Knob Shelter

October 9
Miles ~ 21
Total 1619
We ended up watching The Hunger Games yesterday evening and afterwards some of the other hikers kept chatting in the dojo so it was sort of a late night.  But even though we fell asleep around midnight, it was very comfy sleeping on the matting and it was also super toasty.  Such a nice feeling especially when the weather is so cold and wet.
So waking up was a lot harder than normal too, of course, so we didn't really wake up till around 8:30.  We went to the tea shop next door for coffee and little breakfast sandwiches and eventually got a ride back to the trail.
Cold day!  We started up at about 10:10 and just hauled our way to the first shelter about 10 miles on without any breaks because it was just too chilly - just stopping to go to the bathroom was long enough for us to start freezing all over again.  We also had a lot of vertical today so it seemed we that we kept going back and forth between sweating and having the sweat freeze to our bodies.  Ok, not literally, but it is definitely starting to feel like a different hike with this temperature change and we're already finding it hard to remember what summer felt like!
The shelter we are in tonight is the Chestnut Knob shelter and we are so excited that it has four walls and a door!  These are far and few between and a nice little treat on a cold night.  It looks like there used to be a fire place but unfortunately it was closed up at some point, which is quite the bummer.  It is also on a really beautiful ridge at around 4000 feet, and since we're only going 20 miles tomorrow (oye, I can't believe that we're at the point where 20 miles is "only") we should be leaving at just around sunset and not before it.
Well, even though we're inside my fingers are still pretty chilly - the building is made of concrete so I suppose it is not the best of insulating materials - so I'm going to call it a night.
Oh, sounds like we just hit the 75% mark for the trip!  Yay!
